the walk in the dark

Monday, October 23rd 2000 10:55PM

I finished the PC obstacle course around 9:30 pm. The previous session had taken up a near extra twenty minutes. The least I can say about today's obstacle course is that...uhum, embarrassment?
As always, I enter almost every computer-oriented course with a sense of high self-confidence. Hehe, it did prove to be self-defeating this time around. Man, duuuuuh...if there is a exclamation mark or a question mark next to the adaptor in the device manager...that means there is something wrong. Duh! Well, I didn't know the answer intuitively to remove the component. Then, I had trouble connecting the computer to the network. Kathy, the head coordinator of the RCC internship, told me to look through the checklist. I plugged in the cable. It was partially not in its socket. DUH! Then the second embarrassing part was when I couldn't find Virusscan. Sheesh, and it was in the taskbar all along. Sigh. Oh and not to say that I couldn't find the processor's speed. Hah, it was right in front of my face, printed on the computer itself. Heh, well...I finished first of the four interns there. I guess they expected that of all interns.
I saw the Unit 1 supervisor again. He reminds me distinctly of someone...the swagger...the attitude...hmmm

Then afterwards, I decided to try to wait for the night shuttle. I went to Channing and leaned against the bus stop pole. Then I decided to circle it several times like a maniac. Fun. Yet the shuttle never came. And I walked back to my dorm in the dark.
Last week on Friday, in all insanity, I walked to my dorm alone in the dark at 11 pm. Yes, surprisingly it was scary. There was absolutely nobody on the campus. Nobody. Thoughts of people telling me "Only the psychotic walk in the dark" haunted my mind. Well fortunately that day I returned to my dorm alive and my roommates could barely care less.
Yet today, I almost freaked out when I saw a dark shadow on the bridge across Strawberry Creek (and another side note: Catherine noted too that I couldn't say strawberries correctly). A mugger? Yet the shadow was looking the other way waiting for an intruder to pass by and perhaps he would pounce like a hungry jackal. Instead of waiting to find out, I simply asked outloud without thinking, "Are you waiting for someone?"
"No, I am playing capture the flag."
Smart. Very smart.
Then on the way to my dorm, there was somebody behind me but I thought it was another student. In a shadow nearby me, I could tell it was male, but when I looked sideways it turned out to be a girl with bright orange hair and wearing alternative clothing. I began my flight up the stairs and nearly fell in sudden fear when I realized she was following me. I don't know if she noticed that I was incredibly startled. Well, undeniably alive in my dorm with my overactive imagination again.
On Friday, I had a vision that vampires were chasing me. It's the effect of Halloween.
