inability

It always come to this. I am a new friend. I saw this once before. I am new. Too new. So I can\’t be as good as the old ones – people you have known for the longest time. My friendship can\’t match years and years of togetherness.

Last month, I asked Patrick who he was close to. The people he knew from undergrad or the people he knew from grad school. It was obviously the people he spent the most time with. Namely undergrad. It\’s too hard you know. To break the bonds that have been built over time. It\’s hard to break a frozen circle, break the mold. I get to know people in such little time and now it\’s biting me back. I could never measure up to years and years of friendship. I am just not as good, right? But perhaps that means that more years are necessary.
