non-thorough supervisory

I am the kind of person that needs a complete…thorough directions. I don\’t like being told what to do without being given the entire story.

It pisses me off when I am told to do something, then later told that I did it wrong, but then why didn\’t you tell me how to do it right the first time?

Anyway, what had happened was that I start my second position this week. So I had e-mailed the summer supervisor about it. He replied asking me for the times I had available for office hours. So I promptly e-mailed him back with all the days I had open. I also told him in that same e-mail about the two trips I am taking this month and how I would be gone. He never responded.

So I talked to Vikas about it and he said he got a confirmation. I was irked and I sent another e-mail to the supervisor again. Just a quick note that I was trying to figure out when I should do my OH. And that just so that he wouldn\’t be anxious that I would be around tomorrow. Be there and be here.

And then I get another e-mail today about how my e-mail was too vague. What. And he is the one being too vague when he first sent me the e-mail. Fortunately, e-mail has the power to cover our irritation. And I dashed off an e-mail about apologizing for my misinterpretation and offered concrete times. Of course, I know that these concrete times are already taken by somebody else, but it\’s his fault for not telling me that someone else has taken them. He was supposed to specify that I was supposed to take either this day or that day at this time or that time. But no, none of that. I am just supposed to magically come up with two hours that don\’t conflict? Or is the summer job really that different from the year? I know for a fact that each person is assigned a different day. And how is it possible that two people can have the same day? And it\’s very unproductive to have two people working on the same thing at the same time. GAH.

Sometimes I think that this organization is so…disorganized. And it bugs me all the time that I was never made unit supervisor. I could be the most complete supervisor ever. Except knowing that I probably would be incredibly bossy and controlling. I guess that\’s a downside. Should I be lax? I just want things to be good. And they aren\’t.
